MGM
At the end of July, 2020... a few months after the Covid-19 pandemic started, I had $400 dollars to my name. So what did I do, I booked a $100 plain ticket for New York City. I had met this person on Zoom from NYC. He invited me up there so I left with a one way plain ticket from Fort Lauderdale to New York City. I had no plans on coming back to Fort Lauderdale. I took this opportunity to go to NYC as a chance to start anew. Not to get sober or anything, just a change of people and places. I actually
had the intentions of flying from NYC to San Diego to visit another Zoomer after a week of being in NYC.

I don't know why I thought I could travel the country with only $400 dollars... well now $300. I had a little bit of drugs on me, not much, but enough to sell a bit to get some funds. I was sure I would be able to sell it.
When I landed at LaGuardia International Airport, I called up MGM, the zoomer I was meeting up with for a few days. But someone else answered. I didn't think much of it at the time. He made sure I had the address. I ordered a Uber, which cost me $40.
When I showed up at MGM's apartment, I rang the bell and got buzzed in. When I showed up at his door, the person who greeted me at the door was not MGM, but someone else. I had no idea who he was. He told me MGM was in the shower.
There I am, showing up with a large duffle bag with wheels, my backpack, and my satchel. I didn't travel lightly. I learned to keep everything I have close to me after losing everything, multiple times.
MGM gets out of the shower. Greets me. Then we smoke and hang out with each other, The other guy eventually leaves.
When we were finally alone with each other, we went to a bodega for something to eat. Now was when I loose another $40. I had borrowed $40 from MGM before flying up to visit him. I don't remember what it was that I borrowed the money for. Doesn't matter. But now, I am down to $200. Because I also bought our dinner.
When we get back from the bodega, we eat dinner and have a conversation. You see, MGM had lost interest in me. So he tells me that I can stay tonight, but tomorrow, I have to leave. I had nowhere to go. He asked me if I had plans with anyone else from zoom.
I didn't.
I spend the rest of the night into the morning, on my laptop, on Zoom, smoking my drugs and looking for someone who wants to hang out. I wasn't able to secure a location. So when the time came, which was around noon, I had to just leave with my stuff, I couldn't be there with MGM any longer.
When I left, it was raining. And really windy. You see, right before I left South Florida, Florida was just hit with a hurricane. That same hurricane was now hitting NYC. Not as a hurricane still I think, but it was still a lot of rain and wind. And me wandering around New York City looking for some place to say. Scrolling through my phone on Grindr looking as well as Airbnb.
Then out of nowhere, phone phone just stops working and turns off. It's broke. Full battery. I was have some minor issues with it already, so this was not too much of a surprise. But it still royally fucked me. Now, when my phone broke, I lost everything. All my money was inaccessible.
I still had my laptop I realized. So I go into a coffee shop and get on my laptop. I can at least use Airbnb on my computer. I find a place in Hell's Kitchen that I get two nights at. Now with this, I was almost out of money. $50 left.
For the next two days, I spent the night in the Airbnb and the day, outside, using the city's Wi-Fi.
I downloaded a mobile phone emulator onto my laptop and used Grindr that way. So I could stay high. I wasn't going to do meth out in the open, even I knew that was stupid.
On day three, I had to leave the Airbnb. Now I was wandering around aimlessly. Officially homeless in NYC.
I was able to unlock my debit card online, so what do I do, shop.
I find myself in a luggage store. Buying at large PURPLE, suitcase on wheels. I thought this would make it easier to travel the city with no destination in sight. And it was my favorite color. Win.
So when I got back on Facebook, I posted a status about being stranded in NYC.
A couple hours later when I was able to get back on my laptop somewhere, sitting on a grand set of stairs leading up to a twenty story building. A message from JD.
This messages says that him and his partner moved to Philadelphia. I could come stay with them. They would even help me get there by buying me the train ticket and picking me up in their car in Trenton, New Jersey. I was rescued.
Time for me to travel to a new city. Philly.
